Space X and International Space Station over Greater Manchester - your pictures

Amazing photos captured the moment the SpaceX Crew Dragon and International Space Station (ISS) were spotted from Greater Manchester on Saturday night.

The rocket was spotted at 10.17pm, just minutes after the ISS passed over the UK.

Rocket Falcon 9 blasted off from launchpad 39A at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida at 8.22pm.

The rocket was carrying the Crew Dragon capsule with experienced NASA astronauts Robert Behnken, 48, and Douglas Hurley, 53.

In the photo, a trail left by the rocket can be seen in the distance as the sun sets over the rooftops.

Reader Sean Murray also sent in a brilliant picture from south Manchester of the rocket tearing through the sky.

Lewis Wightman also sent in a photo, believed to be the International Space Station.

Scores of people tweeted about the event on Saturday night.

Social media user Ian wrote: "Actually incredible that I've just seen two fellas blasting in a rocket to space going over Salford hahaha."

While DrunkenPixel tweeted: "Sat in the garden this evening and watched the SpaceX rocket pass over Manchester with beer in my hand!"

And Tom McNamara posted: " @SpaceX Just seen your team head over Manchester in the twilight.

"Congratulations on such a great accomplishment and for bringing us all together."

Yaz Tyson wasn't quite as lucky - despite running outside to see the rocket, she missed the spectacle.

Writing on Twitter, she said: "Well I just ran outside in Grinch pj bottoms, a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina T-shirt and nude heels (they were the nearest shoes) to try and see the rocket.

"I didn’t see the rocket but it’s safe to say I served a look, you’re welcome Salford."

The joint SpaceX and NASA mission, named Demo-2, marked the first time astronauts were launched into space from US soil in nine years.

NASA described it as a demonstration mission, to show SpaceX’s ability to ferry astronauts to the space station and back safely.
