Space Race by Malorie Blackman - review

Malorie Blackman, Space Race (Colour First Readers)

This book is about a girl called Lizzie who lives on a space station called Astra that is half way between Earth and Mars. She likes living there except for a boy called Jake who is always bragging and showing off about his space ship, which has a computer and all you need to do is tell it where to go and it goes there. He is so proud of it that he challenges Lizzie to a race to Pluto and back in her old space ship. Lizzie could normally never win against him, except that she and her friends decide to play a trick. Because their space ships are all the same they manage to confuse Jake as he can't tell the difference between them so thinks he has been beaten!

I really liked this book although it was a bit too short and the writing is quite big (with big pictures on every page). For people who have only recently starting reading it's perfect. I recommend it for girls and boys from 5 to 7 years and would give it five stars out of five.
