Space is the place: watch the new video from Silkie

One of the year’s more high-concept records is Fractals, the new album from Silkie. The producer has skipped across a few styles already – his dubstep productions sucked jazz, pop and grime elements into a sparkling brew – and on Fractals, he’s channelling a kind of 80s synth boogie.

Things get really cosmic, though, when it’s paired with a bizarro sci-fi backstory, illustrated by Argentinian artist Freshcore. Freshcore depicts Silkie as a producer whose music is used by a shadowy elite to reinvent themselves; he ends up rejecting their veneration, and joins a resistance movement. It could be read as an allegory for the dubstep movement being co-opted by stadium EDM, with Silkie staying true to his roots.

You can get a glimpse of the interstellar shenanigans in this exclusive video for the single Love Affair, full of Dâm-Funk style grooves and witty animation. Fractals is out now on Anarchostar.
