LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said all road construction projects executed by the public works department (PWD) during the BJP regime will be probed once the SP is voted to power.
Addressing a rally in Sirathu (Kaushambi) from where the BJP has fielded deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is also the PWD minister in the BJP government, Akhilesh said, “Largescale bunglings have come to the fore in laying of roads across UP. As a result, BJP’s promise of pothole-free roads turned out to be another assurance riddled with holes.”
“There are allegations that sub-standard material was used in laying of roads. New roads developed potholes even before it could be inaugurated. While inaugurating a road, a senior leader tried to break a coconut (a tradition believed to bring auspicious start to any event or project). The coconut did not break but the road’s top layer came off instead,” he said.
