SP, BJP supporters clash at polling booth in Azamgarh

VARANASI: Azamgarh Sadar seat witnessed a clash between the Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party candidates and their supporters during polling at Sarfuddinpur booth on Monday.

The situation was brought under control by the police. The Azamgarh SP Anurag Arya and the district magistrate Amrit Tripathi along with heavy police force reached there after being informed.

According to reports, the sitting MLA and SP candidate Durga Prasad Yadav and BJP candidate Akhilesh Kumar Mishra came face to face near the polling station over some issue. The supporters of both the candidates clashed and indulged in brick batting, in which several vehicles were damaged.

The SP said that the matter is being investigated thoroughly.. “We received some video footage, on the basis of which those responsible will be identified,” he said, adding that the police will lodge an FIR and stern action will be taken.
