'Sozzled' Scottish slug turns blue after crawling out of bottle of MadDog 2020

These bizarre images show a sozzled slug dyed bright blue after crawling out of a bottle of MadDog 2020.

MD2020 is a highly caffeinated alcoholic drink popular with Scottish young people and the slug had clearly taken a rather vibrant colourful reaction to it.

The bright blue slug was found on the North Calder Heritage Trail in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire on Tuesday November 9.

Student Haley Gorman, 27, said it reminded her of Blinky, the three-eyed fish from the Simpsons - and she initially thought it was a gummy sweet.

Haley said: “The bottle looked like it had clear liquid in it and I emptied it out onto the path and it fell out.

“It was bright blue on the dark path - I didn’t really know what it was it at first, I thought it was a gummy sweet.

“It was so bright.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before so I quickly grabbed some of the volunteers and hauled them over.

“I said: ‘Come here, you have to see this slug.’

“I did think it was dead for a while, but it was maybe a bit slower than usual.

“It was pulsating, at least.”

Haley started North Calder Heritage Restoration project, a weekly litter pick, in September after finding herself depressed by the state of the nature trail.

She added: “There’s a lot of what I call legacy litter, some really old brands because the area hasn’t been cleaned in decades.

“It’s a beautiful trail but it’s fallen to some pretty severe negligence.

“We’re gathering a lot of rubbish but there is still a whole lot left to take out.”
