Jamie Soward will return to St George Illawarra in a full-time capacity, taking charge of their NRLW team and acting a specialist halves coach for NRL team.

Soward was on Thursday unveiled as the main new fulltime appointment to head coach Anthony Griffin's football department, after spending around one day a week at the club last year.

His role will now be far more encompassing, also playing a part in of the club's pathways system.

It marks Soward's first full-time return to the club he won a premiership at since he left mid-season in 2013.

His appointment also comes after Mat Head was briefly handed the club's NRLW side last year, before the competition was postponed.

Under the Dragons' new structure, Head will now become Griffin's second assistant alongside Peter Gentle.

Matt Elliott has moved into a "organisation-wide leadership and culture development role", after returning to coaching as an assistant last year.

"These additions will all play crucial roles throughout the Dragons' football structure," head of football Ben Harran said.

"Ensuring a stronger connection between the NRL and NRLW programs, the NSWRL competitions we compete in and our junior representative pathways."
