Southwest Scotland RNR boss Robin Hood to pull 25-stone commando carving 350 miles for charity

A special soldier has arrived in the Stewartry ready for duty.

But Commando Jock 2 will soon be on manoeuvres with the help of Robin Hood who is set to pull the carving more than 350 miles from John O’Groats to Dumfries to raise funds for forces charity Southwest Scotland RnR.

The 63-year-old is embarking on the journey after trekking from the region’s capital to the Cenotaph last year with a different statue – a 20 stone sculpture of a Scottish squaddie called Jock.

And Robin, who lives near Mossdale, admitted: “This one is definitely heavier. It must be at least 25 stone. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve not done any training since the last trip but it took two of us to lift it.”

Robin will be starting his latest expedition later this year as 2019 is the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

As well as raising money for Southwest Scotland RNR – of which Robin is chief executive – he’ll also be popping in to jobcentres to explain the charity’s free HGV driver training to former service personnel.
