Southwark: Man hospitalised after fire in apartment block

A man has been hospitalised following a fire in an apartment block in south London.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said they were called to a fire in a 21-storey apartment block on Hopton Street, Southwark on Friday.

According to the LFB, the fire broke out at 12.14pm and was attended by up to 25 firefighters.

The LFB said the the blaze started in the electrical intake room in the basement of the building.

The room was destroyed by the fire and a man was treated at the scene. He was later taken to hospital where his condition remains unknown.

The fire was extinguished at around 12.56pm and was attended by crews from Dowgate, Lambeth, Dockhead and Soho fire stations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The London Ambulance Service has been approached for comment regarding the victim’s condition.
