Southside tenement lit up 24ft tree with 3000 lights for Glasgow charity

A southside resident has lit up a 24 foot Christmas tree outside her tenement to raise money for Charity.

Sue MacGregor, who lives in Waverley Gardens in Shawlands, decided that of all years, 2020 was the best to light up Christofir, a 24ft Christmas tree outside her tenement.

Working together with HomeStart Glasgow South, Sue arranged for a cherry-picker to arrange 3000 lights on Christofir to 'get his sparkle on'.

Sue's sister Kay told Glasgow Live:  "We decided that if ever there was a year to light him up, its 2020! And 'Let’s Light Up Waverley Gardens' was born. So, we have worked together to raise funds for HomeStart Glasgow South - a super charity offering support to families, helping to give young children the best possible start in life.

"On Wednesday December 2 we arranged 3000 lights and a cherry picker to help Christofir get his sparkle on. We distributed hundreds of flyers to local neighbours and chatted to lots of passers-by who have been lighting up their own windows and trees. We all need some sparkle this Christmas and Christofir the tree is now lit up every evening and feeling magical."

Last weekend Sue and Kay set up a Wishing Garden where local children can tie a ribbon and make a wish, and hosted a 'Walk-by' event on Saturday  Dec 12 for neighbours and locals to see the tree and pick up a Wishing Kit.

They have already raised over £1000 for the charity.

Kay said: "We want to raise awareness for HomeStart and bring some sparkle to some children this Christmas. The money all goes directly to the charity. If you can help us get the story out there, Christofir will send you some Christmas magic in return.
