Southside restaurant targeted in early morning robbery two days after opening

A southside restaurant has shared its devastation after thieves broke in and stole its till- just two days after opening for the first time.

Figo's Peri Peri on Kilmarnock Road estimates that the break in took place around 1.30am on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, manager Ahmed Iqbal said: "The main door was smashed in and there was glass everywhere and they'd taken our till.

"It wasn't a lot of money but it definitely set us back, especially with us being a new business."

Figo's opened their Shawlands location at the start of the week but this is the second incident to have hit the chicken joint.

Ahmed said: "Two weeks ago someone kicked our door in. Luckily are customers have been very understanding and we're finding our feet."

Locals took to Facebook to share support for the new business.

One user said: "Second day of opening of Figo's and already someone already smashed the door and took the till."

Another added:  "What is wrong with people."

A third commented:  "Shocking hope they find who done it."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that we received a report of a robbery at a restaurant on Kilmarnock Road at 1.20am on Wednesday, June 26, in which a sum of money was stolen. Enquiries are ongoing.”
