Souths confirm NRL Homebush stay in 2023

South Sydney have confirmed they'll play their home games at Accor Stadium next year amid calls for them to shift to the newly-opened Allianz Stadium.

They'll play at least eight home matches at the Sydney Olympic Park venue, while they'll take games to Perth's Optus Stadium and southeast Queensland's Sunshine Coast Stadium during a lockdown period when Australia hosts the FIFA Women's World Cup.

It comes after their chief executive Blake Solly said earlier this month his club should be able to move to the new Moore Park venue, citing a NSW government decision to scrap a planned refurbishment of Accor Stadium.

He'd argued that decision should stop the Rabbitohs being bound to an agreement to keep playing games at the venue.

In a statement released Wednesday, Solly said they'd work with Accor Stadium staff to ensure the game-day experience is top-notch for their fans.

"We're really excited to be working closely with the team at Accor Stadium on making the Rabbitohs game days at the venue a special event every time we play there," he said.

"We are working through a lot of ideas on how best to make the most of the Sydney Olympic Park precinct, the concourse at Accor Stadium, the enormous big screen at the southern end of the ground, as well as special experiences for our members at each game."

With memberships beginning to be sold this week, Solly admitted it was time to end speculation about where the club would play matches and move forward with some certainty.

It's understood the Rabbitohs are only committed to play out of Accor until the end of next season, with speculation rife they will then shift to Allianz.

They've played at the Olympic stadium since 2006 and will take trial matches to Gosford and Mudgee in 2023.
