Southport Killer to Be Fed Like Hannibal Lecter After Brutal Prison Officer Attack

An 18-year-old serving 52 years for the brutal murders of three girls back in July will now face extremely harsh conditions in prison after a scalding attack on Thursday at HMP Belmarsh, South East London.

Reports suggest that the teenager, Rudakubana, could be moved to a new, more secure facility as early as today. The attack has raised major concerns about his safety and the safety of prison staff, with insiders revealing he will be treated in an almost “Hannibal Lecter” manner. For context, the infamous character from The Silence of the Lambs was held in solitary confinement under the tightest possible security measures. A source familiar with the situation said, “They will treat Rudakubana much more severely. It will not be far off Hannibal Lecter because they will take no chances”, reported the Sun.

In practical terms, this means Rudakubana will be locked down in what’s described as a ‘box’ with very limited access to the outside world. He won’t even be able to unlock his own cell door; it will only open when the officers on the other side have checked everything. The new setup is seen as an extreme form of isolation, a practice that is considered to dehumanise inmates. The source continued: “He will be let out of his cell only after being searched and escorted by at least five officers, who will be in PPE and possibly with a dog. The unit will be locked down each time he is moved.”

Investigators are also speculating that Rudakubana’s attack could be an attempt to make a name for himself in a similar way to Manchester Arena terrorist Hashem Abedi, who scalded four staff members at HMP Frankland in Co Durham just weeks earlier. The source noted: “Abedi has just been moved to Belmarsh. The timing is no coincidence.”

As a result of the attack and the growing concerns about his behaviour, Rudakubana may now be transferred either to a prison in the North or to the notorious HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire, a facility known for housing some of the UK’s most dangerous offenders.

Yesterday, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper weighed in on the rising issue of prison staff attacks, calling it a “disgrace” and highlighting the crisis currently unfolding in the prison system. She stressed: “There’s a crisis in prisons.”

The Ministry of Justice has responded with a firm statement, assuring the public: “We take attacks on staff incredibly seriously.” The situation is continuing to develop, but one thing is clear: Rudakubana’s life in prison will never be the same.
