Southport killer Axel Rudakubana has been charged with three assaults on prison staff at HMP Belmarsh, as well as possession of an offensive weapon.
The Metropolitan Police said that the alleged assaults occurred in 2025.
Rudakubana is serving a 52-year sentence for murdering Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, Bebe King, six, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July 2024.
He injured eight other children and two adults, dance class leader Leanne Lucas and businessman Jonathan Haye, in the attack.
Rudakubana was given what then-Attorney General Lord Hermer said was the “second-longest sentence imposed by the courts in English history”.
The judge in his case was unable to impose a whole-life order as the murderer was only 17 when he carried out the “sadistic” attack.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Rudakubana has been charged with:
- Assault on an emergency worker on 6 May 2025
- Attempted grievous bodily harm on 8 May 2025
- Unauthorised possession of an offensive weapon in prison on 26 June 2025
- Assault on an emergency worker on 28 October 2025.
The now-19-year-old was charged on 28 July and will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink on 11 September.
In May 2025, it was alleged that Rudakubana used a kettle in his cell to heat water up and then poured boiling water over a prison officer.
Last week, it emerged that the murderer had been transferred from prison to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital, a high-security facility in Crowthorne which has previously housed inmates including the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, known as the ‘Yorkshire Ripper’, and Ronnie Kray, one of the infamous Kray twins.
His transfer came after he was assessed by psychiatrists.
Officials approved the transfer on behalf of ministers, but a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice stressed that it does not alter his sentence.
Offenders who present an increased risk, and cannot be managed safely in a prison environment because of mental health disorders, can be moved to secure psychiatric units.
People in these units are treated as patients rather than prisoners.
