Southern provinces braced for heavy rain and rough seas

The southern region and one central province will be pummelled by heavy rain and rough seas on Wednesday and Thursday, the Meteorological Department has warned.

The weather office expects heavy rain and high waves for Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket and Krabi until Thursday. Prachuap Khiri Khan, classified as a central province, has been included in the warning.

The warning was issued as the tropical depression over the South China Sea reached 700 kilometres east of Songkhla and was moving towards the Gulf of Thailand.
