Southbound A77 road closure on the horizon at Ayrshire town

Motorists travelling south on the A77 in Ayrshire later this month are being warned of a one-day road closure.

The A77, at Dalrymple Street, Girvan, will be closed between Deacon’s Place and Wesley Road on Sunday, June 20 to allow essential roadworks to go ahead.

Contractors working on behalf of national digital network business, Openreach, need to replace a defective manhole frame and cover in the carriageway.

As a result a southbound diversion will be in place as follows: commence at A77 Stumpy Corner, turn right onto Knockcushan Street, turn left onto A77 Henrietta Street; continue onto Kirkpatrick Street, continue onto Benanne Road, end at Shalloch Park Roundabout.

A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for any disruption caused by these essential roadworks, where a one-day closure due to the location of the chamber is the only safe option.

“We’d advise drivers to plan ahead and leave some extra time for their journey- and thank them for their understanding.”
