The Southbank will be transformed into an open air art gallery with a new high tech exhibition.

More than 30 works of augmented reality (AR) art will be arranged between Waterloo Bridge and the Millennium Bridge.

The sculptures by artists including Olafur Eliasson, who famously lit up Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall with an artificial sun, will only be visible to people who download a special Acute Art app on their smart phone or iPad.

Jacob De Geer, CEO of Acute Art, said: “At a moment when all cultural institutions in Europe are closed, Acute Art joins forces with Dazed to offer audiences in London an extraordinary exhibition for free.

“It takes place outside: you can see it alone or with a friend whilst talking a walk along the river. Acute Art was founded on the vision of democratising art and bringing it to places where it could not be before.

“In these complicated times our aspiration has gained new relevance and urgency. We are happy that all the artists are joining us in the project. Institutions are closed but art should not be cancelled!”

The show, called Unreal City, is run with Dazed Media from next Tuesday (December 8) to January 5.
