Southbank Bar in West Bridgford to undergo £450k revamp

Popular sports bar, Southbank Bar, in West Bridgford is to undergo a £450,000 revamp to turn it into an all-day venue offering brunch, lunch and evening menus.

The transformation will include a new outdoor terrace with views of the River Trent, a conservatory dining area and a bigger state-of-the-art kitchen.

Work will start after Nottingham Forest's game against arch rivals Derby County at the City Ground on Saturday, November 9, with the bar set to reopen in time for the festive season.

A wider offering and earlier opening times means 25 new jobs will be created in addition to the current team.

The Trent Bridge bar has been run for more than 21 years by Dave Willans and Les Howard, the directors behind the Great Northern Group, which operates 11 other venues, including the Copper Cafe chain and The Refinery in West Bridgford.

Mr Willans said: "The Southbank is our longest running venue and we felt it the time was perfect to give it a full and thorough refurbishment to bring it in line with the new development behind us.

"We have some very exciting plans in place to extend and improve the outdoor terrace which offers amazing views of the much-loved Trent and create a stylish and comfortable interior."

A new menu for customers to enjoy in the conservatory dining area will be developed by a new team of chefs in the extended kitchen.

"We have a fantastic team of management, staff and external suppliers to help bring this vision to life and we can’t wait to get started and re-opened for the festive period,” added Mr Willans.

As well as food, Southbank will offer a wider range of hot drinks, soft drinks, cocktails and craft key in addition to the current range of Navigation ales.

Great Northern's latest venue - Copper in Bingham market place - will open later this month.
