Southampton winger hoping to follow in Sadio Mane's footsteps

Southampton winger Moussa Djenepo has revealed that he is aiming to become the next Sadio Mane.

The forward, who joined Southampton for £11.8million from RB Salzburg in 2014, scored 21 Premier League goals in two seasons with the Saints before joining Liverpool two years later.

While so far this season, Mane has netted 18 goals in 38 games for Liverpool and played a key role in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side into a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds are just two wins away from being crowned league champions for the first time in 30 years and currently sit 25 points clear of Manchester City.

The Senegal international also played a key role in helping the Reds claim last season’s Champions League, and Djenepo, who has scored two goals and claimed two assists in 18 games for the Saints this season, has described Mane as "a big inspiration" to him.

“Sadio is a big inspiration for me. I like him, he’s a very big player,” he told talkSport.

“But I think I can be better [than him] if I work hard. Sadio is a very big player, and I’m young and I need to learn more.

“In the future we will see. I will do my best to become the next Sadio Mane.”
