Southampton vs Chelsea - LIVE!
Chelsea fell to a second away defeat in a row as they were beaten 2-1 by Southampton despite taking the lead. Raheem Sterling was once again on the scoresheet as the Blues made a positive start, but the vulnerabilities seen in that heavy defeat against Leeds at Elland Road were once again on show from Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Romeo Lavia produced a wonderful finish from the edge of the box to equalise with his first goal for the club before Adam Armstrong sent the Saints into the break ahead as he fired in from close range in first-half added-time.
There was no real second-half response from Chelsea, with Southampton close to doubling their advantage but they were twice denied by some last-ditch defending from the Blues. Another limp display will strengthen the calls for Chelsea to invest in forward areas before the transfer window shuts on Thursday night.
