Southampton vs Arsenal prediction: Aubameyang tipped to score first

Mikel Arteta has said his Arsenal side are willing to push themselves to get the club's first win since the start of Project Restart

The Gunners have been dealt back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion. They now make their third successive away trip where they hope to right some wrongs.

Arteta said: "I think they are really willing, that they are trying really hard. I was really upset because when I was talking about competing it's 100 minutes now, the type of games that have water breaks and the amount of substitutions you are able to make, you have to keep that focus.

"I hate giving games away when they are under control and you deserve to win them. It's about that edge, the way they run, the way they press, the way they care, it's completely changed and I am satisfied with that.

"We done more than enough to win that football game but at the end of the day, at this level, you give something to the opponent, some moments it's going to be difficult to win football games in a row."

But can Arsenal finally get back to winning ways by grabbing all three points at St Mary's?

Online bookmakers thepools.com caught up with Art De Roche:

Recommended bets:

  • Correct score 2-2 - 11/1
  • Aubameyang to score first - 7/2

Win, lose or draw?

Southampton 2-2 Arsenal (11/1)

Arsenal are in dire need of a victory after losing their first two games post-lockdown but don't seem to have clicked just yet.

Mikel Arteta is still figuring out what his best midfield is and his defensive options are minimal so even if the Gunners attacked with more ease against Southampton, the backline wasn't too encouraging.

Who’s a good bet for 1st scorer?

The link up between Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reappeared at the AMEX on Saturday.

The 31-year-old drifting infield to receive Lacazette's tidy flicks in space could create a great opening to put Arsenal ahead at St. Mary's (7/2).

Who’s on pens?

Nicolas Pepe (3/1 anytime) seemed confident during the Brighton game and seeing as he took Arsenal's previous penalty against Aston Villa, that bodes well.

If he isn't on the pitch, however, then Aubameyang will step up.

Will you keep a clean sheet?

Without Bernd Leno in goal the chances of Arsenal keeping a clean sheet seem very slim. Especially considering Danny Ings hasn't lost any of his pre-lockdown form (1/4).

Emi Martinez will be keen to impress but he'll have a big task on the south coast.

Will the absence of fans help or hinder?

So far, the lack of fans hasn't helped Arsenal as much as many would have liked.

When Arteta first took charge, a big factor in the positive swing in momentum was the atmosphere amongst the fans in the ground and maybe that is a bigger miss than first anticipated.
