Full-time: Southampton 2-0 Bournemouth
It’s over. It had been over for a while. Southampton move up to seventh place, four points off the top four. Bournemouth remain a point above the relegation zone. Thanks for reading. Bye.
Updated
90 min: Stanislas wafts one miles over the bar. There will be four minutes of stoppage time.
88 min: King shoots. Stekelenburg saves.
87 min: Stekelenburg finally has to make a save. Tomlin is found in space on the left of the area. He twists past Cedric and shoots forcefully but too close to Stekelenburg, who parries it to safety.
83 min: Bournemouth have Southampton pinned back. They still can’t muster a shot on target. Ritchie drives over from 30 yards.
81 min: Stanislas’s corner is headed away. Tomlin has another dig from 30 yards. Another corner. Gosling heads over. A decent chance.
80 min: Stanislas’s free-kick is deflected over for a corner. Dusan Tadic is replaced by James Ward-Prowse before it can be taken.

VICTOR WANYAMA IS SENT OFF!
78 min: Southampton are down to 10 men! Lee Tomlin shovels inside from the left, showing great endeavour, and he’s chopped down by Wanyama just outside the D. Already on a booking, he’s off! Now then.
Updated
77 min: Bournemouth have had a lot of the ball in this half but they haven’t worked Stekelenburg at all.
74 min: Wanyama carefully sidefoots the ball out for a Bournemouth goal-kick.
Updated
73 min: Harry Arter is replaced by Lee Tomlin. Arter has had a very encouraging game.
71 min: Oriol Romeu replaces Jordy Clasie.
70 min: Arter drills an effort wide from 20 yards.
68 min: Bournemouth win a corner on the right. They catch Southampton out with a short one and King scampers down the byline, only to shovel his cross behind every Bournemouth attacker! Bournemouth have responded well here. Southampton could do with waking up.
Updated
66 min: Stanislas’s effort curls a couple of yards wide. Stekelenburg had it covered.
Updated
65 min: There are ironic cheers from the Bournemouth fans as their side is given a free-kick 25 yards from goal, Van Dijk bundling the buzzing Arter over.
64 min: Dan Gosling catches Jordy Clasie late. He’s booked.
Updated
61 min: Tadic slices one wide from 25 yards. Little is occurring.
59 min: “What is the point of the ‘winter’ ball, other than to fleece more money off the people,” says Mark Judd. “Given it has ‘autumn’ colours, anybody using it on parks pitches will quickly lose it among the leaves. Stick with white until it snows and then break-out the orange ball.” Variety is the spice of life.
57 min: Simon Francis is booked for steaming through Pelle.
54 min: Bournemouth are having a good spell but it’s still quite huffy and puffy.
52 min: Stanislas cuts inside from the left and shoots with his right foot. It’s deflected and spins wide for a corner on the right. Ritchie pings it low towards Arter at the near post, one off the training ground, but Southampton read the danger.
51 min: “Can somebody send the clip of that first goal to Van Gaal, make sure he can see what crisp passing, third man running and quality crossing can lead to...” pleads Adam Hirst.
50 min: A lull.
47 min: Gosling decides to have a go from 25 yards. The Southampton fans behind the goal jeer.
46 min: Bournemouth begin the second half with two new faces in their side. Josh King and Junior Stanislas are on for Glenn Murray and Marc Pugh, Eddie Howe recognising the need for more pace in attack. Southampton have brought on Maya Yoshida, a goalscorer in the week against Aston Villa, for Jose Fonte.
Half-time: Southampton 2-0 Bournemouth
This is very one-sided.
45 min+1: Bournemouth almost snatch a goal just before half time. Gosling turns on the edge of the area and carves Southampton open with a through ball to Murray. But before he can shoot, there’s Van Dijk, saving the day with a crucial last-ditch challenge, and Gosling’s follow-up header drops wide.
Updated
45 min: There will be a minimum of one minute of added time.
43 min: Southampton have had the ball for a long time. The olés are coming out.
39 min: Mane breaks down the right. He wins a corner. This is going to be a long afternoon for Bournemouth. Tadic’s corner is glanced wide by Pelle.

GOAL! Southampton's 2-0 Bournemouth (Pelle, 36 min)
Southampton double their lead with another magnificent goal. Sadio Mane springs a fine pass out to the left to Tadic with the outside of his right foot. Tadic chests the ball down and befuddles Smith with a couple of stepovers that take him to the byline. The ball is whipped into the area and Pelle rises above Distin and bludgeons a monstrous header high to Federici’s right.
Updated
34 min: Southampton overplay in their own half and the ball almost breaks to Murray but he’s not quick enough to elude the alert Van Dijk. That’s where Bournemouth miss Callum Wilson’s speed.
GOAL! Southampton 1-0 Bournemouth (Davis, 31 min)
This is gorgeous and it’s been coming. Jordy Clasie pings a low ball into Graziano Pelle’s feet on the edge of the area. Pelle has his back to goal but he spots Ryan Bertrand peeling away from him and he instantly flicks a pass through to the left-back, Bournemouth suddenly cut apart by a blur of speedy passing and telepathic teamwork. Bertrand looks up and zaps it to the far post, where the unmarked Davis guides his volley past the helpless Federici. Southampton’s movement was too good.
Updated
28 min: Cedric dissects Bournemouth with a careful pass through to Mane on the right. Mane’s got acres of space but his path to goal is blocked and his attempt to thread a low cross into the six-yard box is halted by Distin. The ball ricochets back to Mane, who does well to head it back into the six-yard box, where the unconvincing Federici pushes it into a dangerous area, Ryan Bertrand lurking nearby. It’s hacked clear before Bertrand can pounce.
26 min: Southampton take the corner short and it’s cleverly worked to the edge of the area. A shot’s blocked and the ball loops into the air, leading to a minor scramble. Eventually Bournemouth heave the ball away, but only as far as Clasie, whose shot is blocked by a Bournemouth chest. The referee ignores Southampton’s appeals for handball.
25 min: Tadic drives a cross into Smith’s chest. It’s deflected behind for a corner on the left.
23 min: Arter runs over the ball. It’s tapped to Ritchie. However Davis is on him in a flash and forces Ritche to lose the ball without even having a shot. Ritchie is furious with the referee, claiming that Southampton’s wall wasn’t 10 yards away. “Yeah, very arrogant,” Damian Clarke says of the great south coast debate. “Everyone knows the honours are shared by the mighty Bognor Rocks.” This could get dirty.
21 min: Adam Smith charges inside from the right and seems to overrun the ball. However he just nicks it away from Victor Wanyama before the Southampton midfielder comes careering in and sends the Bournemouth right-back flying. Wanyama is booked and Bournemouth have a free-kick around 35 yards from goal. It’s surely too far out for Matt Ritchie to hit.
19 min: Imagine claiming a whole coast as your own. It’s quite selfish.
17 min: Southampton’s fans are singing about the south coast being theirs. It’s a hefty claim.
15 min: A Southampton goal appears to be on the way. Ryan Bertrand pings a diagonal cross from left to right and Pelle heads down to Mane, whose volley bounces into the ground, into the air, and over the bar. He should have scored.
13 min: Davis’s corner fizzes to the near post. Fonte flicks it on and Bournemouth do well to get it away.
12 min: Southampton press down the right, Cedric sliding a pass inside to Tadic, who moves it back to Mane. His effort is deflected over the bar for another corner.
10 min: Arter bursts forward for the first time and prods a clever pass through to Murray. However Murray hasn’t quite got the legs to beat Van Dijk to the ball, the Southampton denying him a sight of goal with an expertly executed challenge.
7 min: Steven Davis nips a pass round the corner to Graziano Pelle, who’s got some space on the right of the Bournemouth area. His shot is deflected over by Simon Francia, the ball landing on the roof of the net. Dusan Tadic’s corner is punched away by Adam Federici, who does well not to follow the Artur Boruc example and flap it into his own net for a laugh.
Updated
6 min: Nothing has happened yet. This is a disgrace. Weren’t this lot watching Everton v Sunderland?
4 min: It’s good to see Harry Arter back in the Bournemouth side. He was excellent for them last season and with Callum Wilson out injured, having him back is a huge boost. Arter is a fine player with an eye for goal.
Updated
2 min: Sylvain Distin, formerly of Portsmouth, has a touch of the ball. He’s booed. He has another touch. He’s booed again.
And we’re off! Southampton, in their red and white stripes, get the game underway. They’re kicking from right to left in the first half. Bournemouth are in their blue and black away strips.
But first, a minute’s silence for Remembrance Day.

Preamble
Hello. When is a derby not a derby? Apparently when Southampton play Bournemouth. These two sides are only separated by 24 miles and the New Forest, but there is little rivalry between them. There have only been a handful of meetings down the years and they have never played in the top division before. All of which means that what we have here is an opportunity for both sides to develop a healthy hatred for each other this afternoon. It would be rude not to, wouldn’t it?
Kick-off: 4pm GMT.
