Southampton take swipe at Liverpool as they announce Che Adams signing

Southampton have completed the signing of Che Adams from Birmingham - and aimed a cheeky dig at Liverpool in the process of announcing the deal.

The Saints confirmed on Monday they had snapped up the striker and duly produced a video of the "Ralph Express" taking Adams from Birmingham to Southampton with his team-mates.

The clip showed a train driven by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl - with Jurgen Klopp seen flying just behind with a pair of binoculars watching their journey.

The Saints boss later gives a thumbs up as Klopp flies off into the distance.

It appeared to be a clear reference to Liverpool's regular raids of the St Mary's club in recent years, signing six of their players since 2014.

Star players Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane both made the switch from Southampton to Anfield, as did team-mates Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne.

They could be joined by goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who has been linked with a move to replace Simon Mignolet as back-up to Alisson Becker.

But Southampton's latest social media clip shows they are certainly not impressed with Liverpool's raids of their players, even if they are able to see the funny side.

Prolific frontman Adams arrives at St Mary's as their second summer signing after the capture of Mali winger Moussa Djenepo.

Manager Hasenhuttl believes both players fit the bill perfectly as he eyes a big first full Premier League season in charge.

Saints boss Hasenhüttl said: “Che fits the profile of player we want to bring to Southampton and is very driven to show what he can do at the highest level.

“We have been monitoring his progress for some time now. He has shown a desire to join us above all other clubs, which shows the positive reputation Southampton has built for developing young players.

“I am delighted to have signed Che and Moussa ahead of the start of pre-season. They are both young, dynamic players with the level of enthusiasm and hunger we are looking for that can help us improve as a team.”
