Shane Long goal record: Southampton striker scores fastest goal in Premier League history against Watford

Record-breaker: Shane Long celebrates after scoring in seven seconds against Watford on Tuesday (Picture: AFP/Getty Images)

Southampton striker Shane Long has scored the fastest Premier League goal in history after finding the net against Watford in just 7.69 seconds.

The record was previously held by former Tottenham defender Ledley King, who took only 9.82 seconds to score against Bradford City in December 2000.

That mark was overtaken by Long on Tuesday night as he found the net straight from kick-off against Watford.

The Hornets began the match and the ball was rolled back to centre-back Craig Cathcart. However, as he tried to play it forward, his clearance was blocked by Long.

The striker was then clean through on goal with only Ben Foster to beat and he made no mistake as he slid the ball past the Watford goalkeeper.

Many supporters at Vicarage Road were not in their seats when Long found the net for the third time in his last four top-flight appearances.
