Southampton stance on Manchester United's Brandon Williams ahead of summer transfer window

Southampton have suggested they are still interested in Manchester United's Brandon Williams.

The Saints are long-term admirers of the versatile fullback and Williams was close to joining the South Coast club on loan in January before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked the deal, with the Norweigan concerned over United's squad depth.

Williams has been restricted to limited involvement this season, though, making just three appearances in the Premier League.

The MEN understands Williams wants regular minutes next campaign and Southampton are still interested in the 20-year-old. Speaking about his side's transfer plans, Ralph Hasenhuttl has claimed he still views the United man as an 'interesting player'.

"He is an interesting player and a good player, yes," Hasenhuttl told HampshireLive.

"As Olé [Gunnar Solskjaer] said, he does not think that a lot of players will leave his club so we keep on going!"

As mentioned by Hasenhuttl, Solskjaer hasn't offered Southampton much hope of signing Williams this summer - but they could potentially sanction a loan deal for his development.

"It's difficult to say but I can't see too many outgoings," Solskjaer said, speaking at his press conference on Friday.
