Southampton react to Tottenham's social media message about Gareth Bale

Southampton have reacted to a Tottenham Hotspur Twitter post concerning Gareth Bale.

Bale, who came through the Saints academy, started his professional career at St. Mary’s, before moving to White Hart Lane in 2007.

The Wales international started his playing days as a left-back before some impressive attacking performances saw him move up the pitch and onto the left, or right wing.

Untelevised Premier League matches to go PPV

At Spurs, Bale took his game to the next level - with that memorable night at the San Siro against Inter Milan in 2010 immediately springing to mind.

The now-31-year-old then moved to Real Madrid in 2013, where he would spend seven years, winning a host of trophies.

However, Bale has now returned to Spurs - at a brand-new stadium - where he will be looking to rekindle some of the form he used to show week-in, week-out in north London.

There’s a trend on Twitter at the moment, where an account would post an old picture, with the caption: “How it started” and then a new picture, labelled: “How it’s going”.

Spurs did exactly that, tweeting an old picture of Bale and one of him in a recent training session.

But Southampton did not like this, and replied with a picture of a very young-looking Bale, with the caption: “How it actually started”.

Well, the Saints’ Twitter account may have had a laugh at Spurs’ expense here, but surely Jose Mourinho’s side will have the last laugh if the Welshman can produce anything close to what he’s capable of this season.

Bale, yet to make his second debut for Spurs because of injury, is in full training ahead of next weekend's London derby against West Ham United.
