Southampton players donating wages to Saints Foundation after huge Leicester defeat

Southampton have announced that their first-team players and coaching staff will donate their wages from last Friday's humiliating 9-0 loss to Leicester to the charity Saints Foundation.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side created unwanted history by being thrashed by the Foxes at St. Mary's- the biggest home defeat ever in the Premier League- with their manager describing the scoreline as a 'disaster' after the match.

The squad have been in at the club's training ground, Staplewood Campus, throughout the weekend as they try to put things right for the club's supporters.

And as a first step towards trying to appease the fans they have announced that they wish to donate their wages from the day of the Leicester game to Saints Foundation, a charity which works with 12,000 young people and adults of all ages every year and uses sport to try to transform lives.

The club's official Twitter account also posted a statement by Hasenhuttl which read: "After this, no more talking from us, no more messages- the time for that is over. Our only focus is working towards Manchester City . That is where we must direct our entire energy, and this is what we owe to our fans", along with the caption "No more talking. No more messages."

The Saints now face two tricky games as they aim to bounce back from their humbling as they travel twice to Man City, first in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and then in the Premier League on Saturday.

The result leaves Southampton in the relegation zone in 18th place on eight points and with a goal difference of -16.

Their captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also apologised to fans after the Leicester match, saying: "I can only put my head, as the captain, in front of the team, and say the only thing that matters now is what we do going forward.

"We can never, ever let something like this happen again. I don't want to talk- I can only apologise."
