Southampton manager explains how Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Everton transfer could happen

Ralph Hasenhuttl has made clear that Everton target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will only be allowed to leave Southampton if a good offer comes in for the midfielder.

The Blues are in talks with the Saints over the potential signing of the 24-year-old, but face competition from Tottenham Hotspur to secure his services.

The ECHO understands that Southampton are keen for a player exchange as part of any deal for the former Bayern Munich man.

Hasenhuttl addressed the media following his side's draw with Brighton, but gave another press conference on Friday morning to discuss his side's upcoming clash against Bournemouth.

Hojbjerg was high on the agenda again, and the Southampton manager has explained what it would take for any side to pry the midfielder away from St Mary's.

Hasenhuttl told his pre-match press conference [via HampshireLive ]: "I am not surprised that this comes.

"We have a player who is under contract here, we would like him to stay. If someone else wants him, they have to make a good offer.

"We have to find a win-win situation, but at the moment he is with us and he is our player.

"He wants to give everything as long as he is with us. His future, we know there is some interest and if a club wants him, they must show they want him."

Spurs have loaned the Saints full-back Kyle Walker-Peters this season and he could be used as a makeweight in a deal to take Hojbjerg to London.

However, with discussions taking place with Everton, Southampton are believed to have shown an interest in some members of the Blues squad.

When asked about the potential arrival of the midfielder on Thursday evening, Carlo Ancelotti remained respectful.

He said: "I don't want to talk about this. It is unfair to talk about a player that is at another club in this moment."
