Southampton interest in Ligue 1 striker could open door for Leeds United as links resurface

Southampton are interested in the January signing of Lorient striker Terem Moffi which could open the door for Leeds United to sign Che Adams. According to the Athletic, the Saints are very keen on strengthening their attacking options next month and Moffi is among the options they are considering.

Though it is likely Southampton would want to add to the current options they have at their disposal, a marquee arrival such as Moffi could mean they are also more open to letting Adams leave. Adams is a player that has been linked with Leeds over almost three years now, with the Whites first expressing their interest in January of the promotion season.

He was a name that also cropped up in the summer amid Leeds' hunt for a striker, and has reappeared again via the Athletic with Jesse Marsch still keen to make an addition in that area. The Scotland international has never really been prolific since his move to the Premier League, with nine his best ever return in a Southampton shirt.

Adams has netted four so far this campaign, but it his link up play which is likely to be attracting Leeds into constantly considering him as a viable target. Given Leeds' strategy, though, which is signing players under the age of 25 with a strong potential resale value, they would arguably be better off making a move for the aforementioned Southampton-linked Moffi.

Moffi has netted 10 goals in 15 appearances for Lorient this season, with only Kylian Mbappe and Neymar having scored more. At just 23, Moffi has plenty of potential to grow and clearly knows where the back of the net is.
