Southampton have opened talks with Everton over the deadline day signing of Theo Walcott.
The 31-year-old, into the final 12 months of his contract at Goodison, has fallen down the pecking order.
Everton have been open to offers for the former England man all window and now his former club Southampton have registered their interest in signing him.
Walcott was left out of consecutive matchday squads for league games but earned a recall on Saturday and came off the bench in the win over Brighton.
But it may well prove to be his farewell appearance of a deal between Everton and the Saints can be struck.
It’s unclear at this stage of Southampton would be prepared to take on all his wages for the remainder of the campaign.

Theo Walcott is available for sale or loan today but if he stays at Goodison after the window shuts at 11pm, then the Blues boss will consider the 31-year-old a further option to play in the forward line should injury hit any of the first-choice players.
The progress of Ellis Simms, who trains regularly with the senior squad, also leaves Everton content that they would be able to cope with the season-long absence of Kean, without the need to sign a replacement.
Ancelotti has said the last day of the window often brings "surprises".
The Blues' focus, however, looks like being trying to move out a number of unwanted players with Sandro Ramirez, Yannick Bolasie and Mo Besic among those who are available.
