Southampton handed boost ahead of Liverpool clash after FA decision

Southampton have been handed a major selection boost ahead of their game against Liverpool this weekend.

The Reds are due to face the Saints in the Premier League on Saturday night, which will be their first game in a fortnight.

Liverpool were supposed to face Manchester United last Sunday, but the game was postponed following fan protests outside Old Trafford, and at the time of writing has not yet been rescheduled.

Southampton could be without a number of key players when they travel to Anfield on Saturday night, but they have been handed a boost with one player being available.

Jannik Vestergaard was expected to miss the game after being suspended for receiving a red card against Leicester City last week for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

However, after an appeal by the Saints, the centre-back has had his one-match suspension removed and is now free to face Liverpool.

Vestergaard has been a key player in manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s defence at St Mary’s this season, and will be a welcome boost for Southampton.

Elsewhere, Danny Ings , Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu and Will Smallbone are all also expected to miss out through injury, with Takumi Minamino ineligible to feature against his parent club.
