Southampton give Danny Ings transfer update and Manchester United injury concern for Liverpool clash

Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Sunday, January 24.

Ings future update

Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens has insisted Danny Ings is happy at the club and will stay for the remainder of his contract.

Ings has been linked with a return to Liverpool recently and a report emerged earlier in the week that he wants to leave the Saints at the end of the season to play Champions League football.

The former Reds striker traded Anfield for St. Mary's in 2018 and has flourished down on the south coast.

However, he will not be leaving the club anytime soon, according to Semmens, who insisted he is happy where he is at the moment.

"The conversations have gone on and we have had talks with Danny, they've been 100 per cent professional," he told BBC Radio Solent via Hampshire Live.

"Danny is very happy here, he wants to stay with the club and we have enjoyed having him.

"He has a contract with us for 18 months and he will be with us for that time and we will sit down and talk about the future at some time before then."

Thiago holds key for Reds turnaround

Thiago's time at Liverpool has not gone quite to plan so far, but to no fault of his own.

The Spain midfielder arrived at Anfield in September, but has made just six Premier League appearances for the Reds so far.

Injuries, as well as a positive Covid test have disrupted the 29-year-old's short career on Merseyside, but at times, he has shown signs of his world-class ability.

Thiago needs a run of games now under Jurgen Klopp to make up for the lost time during his first few months in England.

His style of play is completely different to what the Reds have with their other options, but it is a welcome change.

When Thiago can start to find his form a bit more, he could hold the key to unlock Liverpool's firepower once again following their recent poor form in front of goal.

United's injury concerns

Manchester United will be without three defenders for the FA Cup fourth round tie with Liverpool this afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be without Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Brandon Williams for the cup clash with the Reds, but Victor Lindelof is expected to return to the squad.

The two most decorated football clubs in England go head-to-head again later on - just seven days after their goalless Premier League battle at Anfield.

This time, Klopp's side go to Old Trafford; where they will be looking to find their touch in front of goal again after a concerning run of form.

It's expected that both Solskjaer and Klopp will make changes for the fourth round tie, but the sides are likely to remain relatively strong given the history of the fixture.
