Southampton Football Club are considering a move for Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray as the club look to plot an immediate return to the Premier League, that's according to fresh reports.
Football League World report the Saints are looking at both Mowbray and Swansea City's Russell Martin as options for their new manager following relegation from the Premier League, with Ruben Selles now expected to depart the club.
Mowbray is under contract at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2024, but despite having just over a year left on his deal the Black Cats' boss has seen his future at the club called into question in recent days. A number of reports have emerged suggestion Mowbray could be asked to leave his role, with the board looking at a younger generation of manager to lead the side next season, this despite the impressive job he has done in taking Sunderland to the play-offs against the odds.

Mowbray hasn't done anything to quell the suggestions of a possible exit, with his statement in the wake of the play-off defeat to Luton Town suggesting he is unsure of his own future. He said; "Do I want to be here next season? I do, yes. But let's wait and see how it goes, and what the summer brings. I don't know what will happen next."
That uncertainty is understood to have put Southampton on alert, with Mowbray an obvious choice given what he has done at Sunderland this season.
