Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted he is in the market for a loan signing before the transfer deadline closes, amid links with Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The versatile 23-year-old has attracted two Premier League suitors heading into the final days of the transfer window, with Saints fighting West Brom for a loan deal.
Maitland-Niles has been absent from Arsenal's squad for the last two Premier League matches and was linked with a permanent transfer to join Wolves in the summer.
While that transfer did not materialise, the five-cap England international could now leave the Emirates Stadium on a temporary basis until the end of the season.
Southampton's interest in the player has now been hinted at, with Hasenhuttl confirming he is looking to secure temporary deals for the second half of the season.
"It's still possible. We have a few days to go and we hope that we get another signing, maybe on loan until the summer," he told Hampshire Live when asked about possible incoming players.
Maitland-Niles has been a valuable player in Mikel Arteta's squad over the past year but has not found a first-team position to nail down as his own.
The 23-year-old has regularly filled in at full-back, on both sides of the defence, but his natural position is in the centre of midfield.
That is an area where opportunities have not been forthcoming to the Hale End graduate and a move to Southampton could aid his development moving forward.
