Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl delivers his verdict on Tottenham's Jose Mourinho decision

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl believes that his side face a harder task against Tottenham following Spurs' decision to sack Jose Mourinho.

Spurs welcome Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night, with former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason set to take charge of the north London side, after the club parted company with Mourinho today.

Mourinho's departure was confirmed by Tottenham this morning in a statement, with the club in seventh spot in the Premier League.

And Hasenhuttl says he feels this has made his side's task more difficult in the wake of Tottenham's decision, as Southampton look to try and put their FA Cup semi-final defeat against Leicester City behind them.

Mourinho admits final result as Spurs boss was 'not good'

"We don't have a lot of time to prepare for the game," he said, speaking at his pre-match press conference.

"It makes even it more difficult now as all the work the analysts have done in last weeks is gone."

But Hasenhuttl says his Southampton side will do all they can to try and get a result against Spurs, who have the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon this weekend.

Southampton are still in need of points though, going into the game in 14th position in the table, nine points above the relegation zone.

"It changes everything for us," Hasenhuttl added. "Everything that you normally tell your players from one day to the next is not there anymore.

"It will be even more difficult for them, they have a final coming. This will be harder now.

"We have a few hours to concentrate on this and we will try to find a team fit enough to compete against them."

Meanwhile, Hasenhuttl was full of praise for Mourinho and what he has achieved in English football, following his previous spells with Chelsea and Manchester United.

And although he did not win a trophy with Spurs, Hasenhuttl says he is still one of the best managers around in the game.

"He is maybe the most successful manager here at the moment. He's won the most. He has had such a big impact on English football," he said.

"He didn't have a very good year, they're below what they tried to achieve they had injuries like us and they dropped back.

"This happens in football and when you're not successful you're under pressure."
