Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl confirms triple injury setback ahead of Tottenham FA Cup tie

Southampton have been dealt a few injury problems ahead of the FA Cup fourth round tie with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The Saints had central defender Jan Bednarek and full-back Yan Valery missing for the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Tuesday, which Southampton won 2-0 thanks to goals from Nathan Redmond and Stuart Armstrong.

But Saints were dealt another injury blow during the game, with Portuguese full-back Cedric Soares forced off with a knee injury in the first half of the game in south London.

And Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that the right-back is now set to be out for about three weeks.

In addition, the Austrian will be without central defender Jannik Vestergaard and forward Shane Long for the clash with Spurs , with both also picking up injuries in midweek.

"Cedric [Soares] is out for maybe three weeks with a ligament iinjury in the knee," Hasenhuttl said, speaking at his pre-match press conference.

"Jannik [Vestergaard] is also out with concussion, and [Shane] Long is also not available because of a small knee problem. So that’s three changes from the starting XI."

Top scorer Danny Ings, who scored the winning goal when the two sides met at St Mary's in the Premier League on New Year's Day, could return to the starting XI though, having been rested on Tuesday before coming off the bench against Palace.

And Hasenhuttl has vowed to play his strongest possible XI as the Saints look to progress to the fifth round at Tottenham's expense.

"I think we handled the rotation well over the intense Christmas period. It is not always easy, no guarantees over keeping people fit, but until now we have had a good performance with injuries," he said.

"Cedric, Jannik and Shane were contact injuries, not muscle injuries.

"We will go with the best possible squad and best possible side to try and get a win against a strong opponent."
