South32 <S32.AX> expects around 300,000-350,000 tonne impact on global alumina supply as a result of lower production from Brazil, after Norsk Hydro <NHY.OL> said this week that production at its Alunorte alumina refinery would be reduced.

"We do expect over the next couple of months it will probably have about roughly a $25 impact on the alumina price... but we probably see it as a three-month impact, not much longer than that," Chief Executive Graham Kerr told a media briefing.

Norsk said on Wednesday that production at Alunorte would be reduced to a level between 35-45% of capacity due to pipeline maintenance.
