South West records lowest daily coronavirus deaths in England

The South West has recorded the lowest daily number of coronavirus deaths in England, the latest figures show.

Our region confirmed 19 Covid-related deaths today (November 17) as 330 were reported across the country.

The North West, which had the highest numbers, recorded 87.

Patients were aged between 27 and 99 years old. All except 11 (aged 30 to 93 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Over the past week, there's been 15 deaths in Bristol, 12 in Stroud and seven in North Somerset.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 29
  • London - 24
  • Midlands - 86
  • North East & Yorkshire - 63
  • North West - 87
  • South East – 22
  • South West - 19
  • TOTAL 330

The figures come on the same day that it's been revealed an area of South Bristol has become the seventh-worst place in the country for the virus.

A total of 69 people tested positive for coronavirus in the Bristol suburb of Bishopsworth over the latest seven day period.

The positive tests mean Bishopsworth now has a coronavirus ‘case rate’ of 1,163 cases per 100,000 people - the standard average used to see the prevalence of the virus in different areas.

It is the highest figure seen since comprehensive testing was introduced, and higher than any area mainly populated by students earlier on in this second wave
