South West directory Local Pages defies print downturn as it marks 40 years in business

A local business directory for the South West region is marking its 40th anniversary.

Local Pages - also known as 'The Little Blue Book' - was launched in 1979 by Boris Bernard for the South West and South Wales.

The directory covers 500,000 homes and business across 50 towns and has generated more than 4.2 million enquiries since its launch, according to the firm, which is family-owned.

Dan Bernard, Boris’s son and managing director, said: “We know that directories – both print and online - still play a very important part in our communities.

“In a time where nationally known brands are discontinuing their print directories, Local Pages 2018 was the biggest year ever for The Little Blue Book.

The Local Pages team is based in Bristol (Local Pages)

“Printed directories offer outreach to our users who are looking for a local service or tradesman, organised by classification, which makes readers able to find local services easily.

“Local Pages are very proud to be celebrating our 40th year of trading.”

The company, which now also has a digital version, has grown from two staff to an 18-strong team, based in an office in Bristol.

First known as West Country Publishing, the company later became Local Pages after local users started calling it that.
