South Tyneside Festival confirms dates for summer 2020

Organisers of the biggest free party of the summer have confirmed its return for 2020 and they are promising another stand-out programme of music.

South Tyneside Festival, which always adds a vibe to summer with its three month-long mix of live bands, singers and street entertainment, will be back from June and its centrepiece parade is to be bigger than ever.

The festival's event programme, run by South Tyneside Council, will continue until August and coming weeks will see big name acts announced for its popular concert strand which features gigs at Bents Park on South Shields' sea-front.

These will take place each Sunday from July 12 until August 2 and organisers promise "a stellar line-up of musical entertainment to suit all ages".

Amid the music performances - which also include brass band concerts in the town's Amphitheatre on Sea Road - as well as children’s entertainment, the festival's Summer Parade will take place on July 4 and this year it will offer more opportunities than ever for people to be involved.

Coun Norman Dick, mayor of South Tyneside, said: "The Summer Parade is a true community event with thousands of young people taking part and we are looking forward to once again having an amazing day."

He said the festival, which annually sees crowds of music fans flock to the area throughout the summer months, is a "fantastic event" for not just the town but the region as a whole.

He added: "The performers we have had in the past have seen people travel from across Europe to see their favourite acts, which is a great way for us to showcase what we have to offer."
