Flood prevention schemes which should have been completed in Glasgow’s South Side are delaying the development of new residential homes.
In 2013 a flood risk assessment was carried out in Pollokshaws at an area where the White Cart Water runs through.
It was discovered that Bengal Street would require flood prevention measures before housing could be constructed on open space.
In 2018 Transforming Communities: Glasgow agreed to provide £880,000 to fully fund the work at Bengal Street but it has still not been completed.
At Glasgow City Council’s city administration committee concerns were raised regarding the delay.

Councillors also wanted to know if arrangements would be put in place to replace the open space which would allow the community to take part in recreational activities.
They were told on two occasions by an officer he would answer their question in private and that discussions were taking place with Sport Scotland.
Councillor Archie Graham said: “I very much welcome this report. I would like to know more about the Pollokshaws flood prevention works.
“The report states there is a contract in place but it has overrun by a substantial amount of time. I am keen to find out more about the work that is still required in Bengal Street.
“I understand that we cannot build housing there until the work is complete.”
Mr Graham was informed by a council officer he would be given a private briefing.
Councillor Martha Wardop said: “This area was a playing field next to the river bank. Had there been housing on this spot before or was it purely used for recreational purposes?
“We are trying to encourage people to keep fit and healthy. The loss of open space will affect that and I hope this is being taken into account.
“There does not seem to be any guarantee open space will be created elsewhere in the area. We are trying to promote active travel throughout the city and I want to make sure this will be developed in Pollokshaws.
“I feel quite strongly about this.”
A council spokesman said: “There had been playing fields there before. We have been in discussion with Sport Scotland to talk about plans for the area.
“I am happy to discuss with you in private.”
Councillor Wardrop was assured that opened space was at the core of council plans. Members agreed to continue to support the project.
