South Shields neighbourhood menace ordered to pay compensation to her victim

A neighbourhood menace has been ordered to pay compensation to a mum she struck fear into.

Aggressive Kimberley Wright, 35, must fork out £100 for her vile drunken bravado outside her victim’s South Shields home.

She turned up in Chaucer Avenue, Biddick Hall, and acted threateningly on the morning of Saturday, September 25, a court heard.

Her antics led the worried woman to safeguard her teenage daughter by walking her to a bus stop to get to work.

On her return, Wright, of Masefield Drive, also Biddick Hall, goaded her by asking, “Do you have a problem?”

Wright, who has 30 previous convictions from 55 offences, including three public order crimes, then booted and punched her garden gate.

Prosecutor Rob Lawson told the hearing: “When the mum and her daughter got to the front door, they noticed Ms Wright in the street.

“She was shouting and being abusive, although the woman couldn’t hear the exact words. Ms Wright appeared to be intoxicated.

“As she walked towards the bus stop with her daughter, Ms Wright moved towards her house, making threats and being abusive.

“She walked to her garden gate and punched and kicked it for around twenty seconds.”

Wright pleaded guilty to making a threat of unlawful violence.

In a victim statement read to South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, the mother said Wright was known for causing trouble while drunk.

And she said she lived in fear of her, even when locked away indoors.

Defence solicitor Greg Flaxen did not outline the reasons for Wright’s offending but said they were detailed in a Probation Service report to the court.

As well as the compensation payment, District Judge Paul Currer made Wright subject to a 12-month community order, with 25 rehabilitation days, with £85 court costs.
