A man has appeared in court accused of terrorism offences and publishing material intended to stir up racial hatred.
John Nimmo, 31, is charged with possessing a document likely to be of use to someone preparing an act of terrorism, namely The Anarchist Cookbook, between May 19 and July 4 this year.
Westminster Magistrates' Court heard that the publication contains information about explosive materials.
Nimmo, of Osborne Avenue in South Shields , is also charged with providing a web link that enabled others to read a terrorist publication on July 4.
He appeared via video link from South Tyneside Magistrates' Court following his arrest by counter-terrorism officers on August 29.
Nimmo is charged with publishing a statement on May 22 on social media that allegedly intended to encourage the public to commit acts of terrorism, and a charge of distributing a poster online that was intended to stir up racial hatred.
He is further charged with publishing written material on social media, allegedly intending to stir up hatred on the grounds of religion, on May 22 and a charge of posting articles on social media under a pseudonym between February 22 and July 11 while prohibited from doing so by a criminal behaviour order.
Nimmo, who entered no plea to all of the six charges, was granted conditional bail by Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot.
His bail conditions state he must reside at Osborne Avenue, not access any form of social media and not access the internet, except when using a specified device for the sole purpose of seeking employment.
He must also provide police with access to that device and not delete any internet history.
Nimmo is due to appear at the Central Criminal Court on January 3 2020.
