Emma Lewell-Buck has lost almost 10,000 votes as she clung on to her constituency.
Ms Lewell-Buck won 17,273 votes with the Conservative challenger Oni Oviri winning 7,688 votes, leaving her with a majority of 9,585 - compared to a majority of 14,508 in 2017.
Brexit Party candidate Glenn Thompson was hot on the heels of the Tories pulling in 6,446 votes.
The result helped keep Tyneside red though majorities across the region were cut as voters seemed to turn on Labour as a result of a divided line on Brexit.
