Plans to honour three of South Tyneside's greats with blue plaques have been given the go-ahead by council bosses.
The scheme was first introduced in South Tyneside in 2017 after the area was ranked as one of the worst in the country for remembering its history.
Plaques aim to pay tribute to those who have made a "significant contribution to the cultural, industrial or civic legacy of South Tyneside or Britain."
And nominees must also have strong links with South Tyneside - being born, living or working there.
On Wednesday, (May 15), South Tyneside Council's head of Culture and Leisure, Coun Alan Kerr, revealed the 2019/20 nominations to cabinet.
They include South Shields-born Sir Ridley Scott who is world famous for his cinematic epics.
Known for films such as Gladiator, Alien and Blade Runner, the director was subject of an exhibition at the opening of 'The Word' in South Shields in 2016.
Other nominees include Anne Seymour MBE - a South Tyneside figure well-known for her work as a missionary and charity supporter.
And South Shields-born, Eileen O'Shaughnessy - the wife of English novelist and journalist, George Orwell - is also in the running for a blue plaque.
The nomination came from the Orwell Society, with a council report stating she was considered as a "major influence" in Orwell's writing.
Plaques are set to be installed in 2019/20 with exact locations yet to be revealed.
According to a council report, there must be an "existing, original site with strong links to (nominees) where a plaque be could installed."
Once a location is chosen, with the permission of the premises owner, the plaques are raised in a ceremony involving the Mayor and Mayoress.
They are also logged on an online database which recognises plaques both nationally and internationally.
According to a council report, each plaque costs around £330 to manufacture and £80 to install.
Council bosses are expected to pay for the Ridley Scott plaque while other plaques will be paid for by groups or individuals who made nominations.

Joseph Bede Symonds, Jarrow Town Hall: (Former Jarrow Mayor and councillor)
St Hilda's Colliery and Brass Band: St Hilda's Headstock (World champion brass band on five occasions between 1912 - 1926)
John Dagnia: Cleadon House: (Industrialist and leader in glass manufacturing in the 18th Century).
