South Shields 0-2 Sunderland player ratings: James Hunter's match marks

Jack Ross fielded two seperate teams in each half of Sunderland's pre-season friendly victory over South Shields.

The Black Cats ran out 2-0 winners in the game with goals from Ethan Robson and Luke O'Nien.

The exception to the mass changes was Jack Bainbridge who played just shy of 70 minutes before being replaced by Jordan Hunter.

Here's how James Hunter rated the players.

First half

LEE BURGE 6
First outing for the new boy, he made one good stop from Brown's set-piece header and had one nervy moment when he came out of his area to challenge Mason

CONOR McLAUGHLIN 7
Another summer arrival, he looked solid on the right side of a back three

GLENN LOOVENS 6
First outing since December for the veteran defender and he did OK

JACK BAINBRIDGE 7
The youngsters operated on the left side of the back three and looked comfortable

Played as the right wingback and covered a lot of ground


GEORGE HONEYMAN 6
A steady start from the skipper, who put a couple of decent balls into the box

Kept the ball moving in central midfield

Scored the opening goal and saw plenty of the ball in the first half

Fumbled a long-range shot from Alli but recovered just in time to spare his blushes
