South Norwood crash: Pedestrian killed ‘in hit and run’ as he crossed road in south London

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a black BMW as he crossed a road in south London.

The man, in his thirties, was thrown into the air as he was struck at speed in Portland Road, South Norwood, yesterday morning.

He was found with severe injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

The car left the scene but was found nearby later.

A man was being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for any dash-cam footage of the collision or home CCTV images of the BMW leaving the scene. Please contact police on 101 or via @MetCC and quote CAD 1051/14APRIL.
