A nightclub faces closure after a man was arrested over the attempted murder of a bouncer.
Police were called to the Red Sea, in Camberwell Road, after reports of a man trying to stab a security guard at about 2am — two and a half hours after the club should have closed.
The Met said the suspect had been allowed in earlier and CCTV apparently showed him on the dancefloor “intoxicated”.
They are urging Southwark council to revoke the club’s licence.
The 45-year-old bouncer needed hospital treatment for a bite.
A man, 37, was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a knife, and later on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been released under investigation.
The club’s licence was granted in 2016 but suspended for six weeks that year after a man was attacked.
Licence holder Letteberhan Abraha Tafla, 59, received a council caution after admitting in November operating beyond the permitted hours.
The venue, which also operates as a restaurant, has a club in its basement. The licensing committee will decide what action to take on Monday.
