South Liverpool restaurant crowned Independent Business of the Year

A popular South Liverpool restaurant has been crowned the Independent Business of the Year in the City of Liverpool Business Awards.

The awards were established by Downtown Liverpool back in 2004 in order to acknowledge and celebrate companies and entrepreneurs making successful and significant contributions to the hospitality industry within the city. Liverpool boasts an array of brilliant restaurants, cafes and bars and one haunt in the south of the city proved victorious in this year's COLBA ceremony.

Popular café bar and bistro The Watering Can bagged the coveted award at the prestigious ceremony held in the iconic Sefton Park Palm House. Located in the idyllic surroundings of Greenbank Park, the venue snagged the Independent Business of the Year accolade 12 months after securing the gong for Best Newcomer. It also recently won the Liverpool City Region Tourism Award for Hidden Gem.

The hit venue, which has been operating for three years, is nestled among 12 acres of beautiful Victorian parkland and has attracted visitors from throughout the region and beyond. Its unique design and abundance of picturesque flora and fauna proves a common talking point.

Open from 9am until 7pm daily, the venue offers a menu of seasonally influenced dishes, whipped up with the finest local ingredients wherever possible, as well as an extensive and popular brunch menu. Owners Keith Perryman and Philip Starling recently opened a sister site, The Wheelbarrow, based in the Greenbank Sports Academy on Greenbank Road, which is garnering popularity in the local leisure scene.

Keith Perryman said: "We are delighted that our team has been recognised as Independent Business of the Year and we are proud of everything we have achieved together. We are passionate about the area and our surroundings and we are thrilled that our guests love both The Watering Can and The Wheelbarrow as much as we do. Winning a hat-trick of awards is testament to the ability we have in every area of our operation and the passion we have as operators."
