South Lanarkshire under-14s project gives schools' rugby a real boost

Hamilton Rugby Club and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture have taken a significant step forward in schools’ rugby with the launch of an under-14 competition.

Developed and rolled out by Active Schools co-ordinator Calum Taylor and Hamilton development officer Steven Meenagh, the competition will see Hamilton College, Larkhall Academy, Carluke High, Stonelaw High, East Kilbride combined schools and Strathaven Academy taking part in fixtures across February and March.

Steven said: “I am really excited to see this competition take off. This time last year, there were very little opportunities locally for schools in South Lanarkshire.

“Working closely with Calum at Active Schools, we have managed to pull together a working group of teachers
to start to develop the school game.”
